Small, independent practices such as mine are ideally suited for providing non-emergent, personalized care in a one-on-one setting. Some mental health conditions are best managed by a multi-disciplinary team that can provide comprehensive treatment and interventions in a more intensive setting, or by clinicians that specialize in those particular fields.
Due to my professional views regarding the sanctity of the confidential relationship, if you believe at the outset of therapy that you need or may need therapeutic services that could require involvement in litigation of any sort, including but not limited to divorce proceedings and issues related to child custody, I ask that you seek services from another therapist who has experience in matters of forensics and legal proceedings.
In addition to the above, in order to offer the best possible care to my clients, it is the policy of my practice that I do not treat the following conditions, situations, or provide the following services:
- Emergency psychiatric care
- Intensive or ongoing crisis management services
- Disorders involving chronic self-harm or recurrent suicidal urges
- Borderline or other Personality Disorders
- Psychotic Disorders, Acute or Chronic
- Bipolar I Disorder
- Drug or alcohol overuse or abuse
- Attachment Disorder
- Conduct Disorder
- Eating Disorders
- Attention Deficit Disorder, where it occurs as the primary diagnosis
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Dementia or other Cognitive Disorders
- Anger management, as the primary focus of treatment
- Cases involving anticipated, current, or recent CPS involvement
- Court ordered psychiatric treatment
- Perpetration of assault (physical or sexual), or those otherwise involved with the criminal justice system
- Testing or evaluations, including but not limited to:
- Parenting or custody evaluations
- School readiness evaluations
- Disability determinations
- Return to work evaluations
It is my belief that effective therapy sessions cannot be conducted while actively altered by chemical substances, legal or illegal. In the event that a client appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the session will be halted, and a safe ride home arranged for the individual at their expense.
